      bear plumes on the back. They are generally white. Among
      the best known species are the American egret (Ardea
      egretta syn. Herodias egretta); the great egret (Ardea
      alba); the little egret (Ardea garzetta), of Europe;
      and the American snowy egret (Ardea candidissima).
